I just read a heart breaking story about a six-year-old boy who died during dental sedation. I’ve been considering sedation, but don’t want to put my life at risk.

Missy,
I know the story you’re referring too, and yes, it is heart breaking. I’m devastated for what those parents went through. There are some differences here that should put your mind at ease.
This patient had full anesthetic sedation. When most patients have dental sedation, it is actually oral conscious sedation; not what this precious little boy had.
Another aspect is that the dentist involved in this story did the entire procedure, including the sedation, on his own. He should have had a team there. He was doing too much and couldn’t keep the proper eye on everything. IF you’re concerned about that, talk to the dentist about who will be present during your procedure.
Oral conscious sedation is very safe. Choose a DOCS certified dentist, and you’ll know you’re in safe hands.
