I have to have a dental procedure done where my dentist suggested sedation dentistry. I know it’s going to sound like I’m paranoid, but I keep reading these stories about girls getting molested while under sedation. Plus, I had a roommate at my university who was just drugged by a guy she’s known for TWO YEARS! I just don’t feel like women are safe anymore. If I’m going to have to have sedation, can I have my mom come with me, so I’ll feel safe?

Melissa,
I’m very sorry you’ve been exposed to so much evil. It does make you feel unsafe at times. I want you to know that there are good people out there, including good men. I don’t want you to always feel this way.
I think if you explained your concerns to your dentist, he understand your concerns with sedation and would allow your mother to come back with you. To be honest with you, those dental offices shoul dhave had procedures in place to prevent something like this. A young woman should never have been left alone in a room with someone while she was under sedation, especially a man. It’s for the man’s protection too, so they can’t be accused of anything inappropriate.
If your dentist gives you a problem about your mom, you can easily have that procedure done with a dentist who is more understanding.
