You can use the power
Zoom
whitening technique. |
Both techniques work, and your choice will depend some on your personal
preference. Dr. Rothwell provides both techniques in our office.
If you would like a whiter smile, call our office for a consultation.
It's important to start with a complete dental examination to make sure
that you have no leaky fillings or open cavities that could cause your
teeth to become irritated by the tooth whitening process.
If you want results quickly, Zoom whitening is the way to go. Click the
link above to learn more about this technique, which can give you
dramatically whiter teeth after one appointment.
Otherwise, you can use the dentist-supervised tray technique. We will
take impressions of your teeth and make a clear tray that fits your mouth
exactly. Wear the whitening gel every day for a couple of weeks for a
beautiful, bright smile.
Tooth whitening is a permanent treatment. Stains and dark color are
permanently removed from your teeth. However, if you drink coffee, or eat
berries or other darkly-pigmented foods, your teeth will continue to pick
up stain throughout your life. So after you have had them whitened, we
recommend an occasional touch-up treatment. This can be accomplished by
wearing your bleaching tray for one night a year, and just purchasing gel
refills.
Over-the-counter tooth whitening systems
Be very careful with these products that you buy in the store or over
the Internet. Tests have shown that some of these products may whiten your
teeth temporarily, but they have harsh abrasives or acids that can damage
your teeth and make them later turn even darker than they were originally.
Additionally, if you have leaky fillings or cavities, bleaching substances
can damage your teeth. Other products are so weak that they are hardly
worth the trouble.
It is safest to have teeth whitening done by an experienced and trained
cosmetic dentist, like Hilton Head Island cosmetic
dentist Dr. Bonnie Rothwell.
