Many people come to our office requesting Lumineers. That’s not surprising. They’re are heavily advertised as being ultra-thin and no prep. What they don’t know is they are not the only brand of ultra thin veneers. Which is a good thing, because many expert cosmetic dentist prefer to use those other brands. The reason for that is the quality of the lab. With most brands of porcelain veneers, the dentist gets to decide which lab to use. Not with Lumineers. The Lumineers company insists dentist use the Den-Mat lab. Many expert cosmetic dentists feel their lab isn’t the best quality, and patients have found the results to look bulky and fake.
Drs. Rothwell prefers to choose her own lab. This way she can control the quality of your veneers.
If not Lumineers, than what?
The key to a gorgeous smile makeover is the dentist, not the brand. Cosmetic dentistry requires technique and artistry that isn’t taught in dental school. It takes post-graduate training and an artistic eye. Dr. Rothwell is accredited with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). This puts her in among the top 1-3% of cosmetic dentists in the country. They know the strengths of each brand of porcelain veneers and can determine which brand will give you the smile design you’ve got your heart set on.
Many patients are excited about ultra thin veneers because of the no-prep option. We are careful never to remove any healthy tooth structure unnecessarily. An ultra thin veneer is .3 millimeters thick. A traditional porcelain veneer is .5 millimeters thick. Though it is often possible for someone to have an ultra thin veneer placed without any tooth preparation, this doesn’t work in every case. You want the best looking smile possible. We’re here to ensure that.
