Is There Such a Thing As a TMJ Specialist?
Not really. While people use this term, there is no recognized specialty in TMJ treatment in dentistry, so it is not accurate to call any dentist a TMJ specialist. However, there is extensive training required to adequately treat this disorder. Dr. Dianna Lenick of Hilton Head, South Carolina, has not only been treating TMJ for over 20 years, she also has significant training in TMJ disorder and even teaches other dentists about TMJ.
- She is part of the L.D. Pankey Institute Board of Advisors as a member of the visiting faculty where she participated in the study of anterior teeth issues, occlusion, esthetics, and function.
- Dr. Lenick was also invited to join the Piper-McKee Study Club where she learned more about complex treatment planning for cases involving TMJ disorders.
- She’s also been studying with nationally recognized TMJ expert, Mark Piper, for 15 years.
