I went to my first audition today in Hollywood. It went okay, but they said I’d need to do something about my teeth. They said all A-listers get porcelain veneers. Is that true? I was thinking just getting some whitening would be enough.

Crystal,
Congratulations on your first audition. That’s a big step in your career. I’m glad you felt it went okay. Though many celebrities have porcelain veneers, it’s a stretch to say all of them do. There are some obvious cases, like Tom Cruise (based on pictures of him before and after the procedure). But, I’m sure some celebrities are just fortunate enough to have a naturally gorgeous smile.
If I were in your place, instead of going to the dentist with a procedure in mind, I would simply find a great cosmetic dentist and have him look at your smile and make recommendations. Teeth whitening can do a lot to change a smile. So can orthodontics and porcelain veneers.
The biggest advantage of porcelain veneers is it can completely change the character of your smile. It can fill in gaps, make crooked teeth look straight, and even change the shape, size, and color of your teeth. It’s the Cadillac of smile makeovers.
A word of warning. Not all cosmetic dentists are created equal. Some of skilled and some aren’t. I’m also sure there are many dentists out in Hollywood ready to take advantage of young women trying to launch an acting career. Look for a dentist who has reached accreditation level with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). They’re the ones who can give you the gorgeous smile you’re hoping for. They’ve been highly vetted both for technical skill and artistry.
